Folwell
Wellness Night is this coming Friday January 17th, from 6-8 pm.
What
is this exactly? Basically, it is just a fun night for kids of all ages
(including parents!) to run off some energy and work your mind and body.
We
will have open gym time with basketball, scooters and finally I got these
really huge 3 foot balloons (or so it's advertised) that I will let loose in
the gym the last half hour. I probably won't blow them up that big
because I'm very squeamish about popping balloons, but if some brave parent wants
to help me blow them up that big, I won't complain, as long as I'm not there!
Another
cool station this year is make your own "Wreck this Journal."
Kids will pick a book cover (many different colors), put pre-printed pages
together, sew the pages together, pick and glue a binder on, decorate the cover
and wreck as wanted. I'll have stickers, markers, crayons, etc. for kids
to get started. You will see in the book directions like--color outside
of the lines, poke holes in this page, drip something on this page, just to
name a few. If you are not familiar with "Wreck This Journal," Google or find it on YouTube and you will find many examples. Amazon
sells the journal for $10, but your kids can make one free!
Also
new this year-- kids can float balls on air using different sizes and weights
of balls to see how they float. They can also move the air to see if they
can control the ball. Downside of this--it will be noisy! Bring
your own ear plugs! How does this work?--basically we will have shop vacs
in a corner with balls. The concentration of air coming out of the shop
vac will float the ball. Very simple, but very fun!
And
of course, kids will get hungry with all the action at wellness night, so we
will have a great snack for them. Great Harvest Bread is generously
donating slices of whole wheat bread for the event. Yummy!
