School Safety Patrol

New patrol arrangement will begin on Monday, April 28. Due to construction and the number of students needing to cross 14th Ave at the 7th St. corner, we will be adding two more patrols at this location. 4 patrol members will cross students in both directions. There will be a mix of 4th and 5th graders performing these duties for the remainder of the school year. Please be patient while driving to insure student safety.

Movie Night at Folwell

When Queen Elsa accidentally freezes the entire town, her sister, Princess Anna, must convince her to bring summer back. FROZEN is not only a funny, entertaining movie, with incredible animation, it also shows that true love is sacrifice.

Bring your blankets and camp chairs for
this special family event in the gym!  Popcorn, candy and pop will be available for purchase.

Friday, April 18 at 6:30pm

Admission price = 2 BOX TOPS per person

Be a box tops detective! Ask neighbors, relatives and colleagues to clip their box tops for you.
We are doing a great job this year.

Running Club

Spring Running Club is Here!!

Running Club begins Monday, April 21st until Friday, May 23rd .

We meet everyday before school at 8:45  to run or walk laps.  6 laps around the playground equals one mile.  In the case of wet or muddy conditions we will run around the block across from Folwell meeting on the corner of 7th Street and 15th Ave.

All students are invited to participate in Spring Running Club.  For those who are interested in training for the Med-City Kids Marathon, information, registration and mile tracking forms can be found at  (click on Kids Events).   Participation in the Med City Kids Marathon is NOT required.  We encourage every student to join us before school to run or walk as much or as little as you’d like.   Teachers report that those students who participate in running club come to class ready to learn.

There will be 5$ gift card drawings everyday and 25$ gift card drawing every week for those students who come to Running Club every day of the week.

Due to construction at Folwell this spring, we will need to take extra precautions to keep students safe.  There will be absolutely NO entering the playground through the parking lot.   Please drop students off in front of the school and have them walk around the corner and enter the playground on the North/6th Street Side.  We will have volunteers on the corner or near the gate, welcoming students to running club.  In the event we are running around the block, please have students use the crossing guards or adult assistance to cross the street.

Remember to wear running shoes.  No open toed shoes will be allowed.  There will be no running club if inclement weather.

Volunteers will be needed to ensure a smooth and safe running club.  Please consider signing up to help keep track of miles and supervise students.   Volunteer sign up is through VolunteerSpot   Due to construction volunteers are asked to park North on 15th Avenue SW, or up on 7th Street SW on the other side of 14th Ave SW.

All students must return the mint green registration form that went home Friday April   11th.   Extra forms can be found in the cabinet in front of the main office.

Please contact Sarah Lichty ( if you have any questions.

Folwell Spring Carnival

Save the Date! - Friday May 9

Every year Folwell School has a carnival to celebrate Folwell community and  spirit.  It is a wonderful time to see friends, socialize, and enjoy being at Folwell.  It is also a great time to raise money for children’s programs at Folwell.

There will be a lot of fun activities for kids:  inflatables, games, face painting, hair coloring etc.  Carnival passes will be sold the week of carnival for $5. After kids are done, they can trade in their pass for a carnival prize.

Food will be available for purchase:  pizza, hot dogs, ice cream treats, cotton candy, popcorn and more!

Raffle baskets are also popular.  Tickets cost $1.  Buy as many as you like.  Winners will be drawn during the last ½ hour of carnival.

Be sure to check out the silent auction.  We have over 70 donations so far and have some fantastic items.

How can you help?

*Donate an item for the raffle basket or silent auction.  We are still looking for donations.  The best items are the ones that Folwell Families give!
*Bid HIGH on silent auction---all proceeds go toward programs at Folwell School!
*Buy lots of raffle tickets!  Last year we raised over $1000 on baskets.
*Sign up to help the day of carnival---we will need help setting up, cleaning up, selling tickets, face painting, games, hair coloring etc.

*Contact Betty Kennel at  to donate!

Thank you for supporting Folwell School!

Construction Update

Some of you may have noticed that construction has already started putting up fencing around the work area at Folwell. This means the parking lot will no longer be available for staff starting Monday. Folwell staff will be parking north of 6th St. Due to the possible impact of reduced parking options during construction, I have been working with the Rochester Police Department and they have agreed to provide traffic patrol assistance during pick-up time after school from 3:15-3:50. We are grateful for their assistance.

The bike rack will be relocated during construction to an area by door 6 on the corner. Included in the construction, the district will be adding a concrete pad back in its original location in which to house the racks in the fall.

During the day, if you are stopping into the office and will only be visiting the building for a few minutes then feel free to continue parking in front of Folwell on the 15th Ave. by door 1. Subs, volunteers and specialist teachers serving multiple schools will be parking along 7th St. All staff will have some form of identify on their dashboard that will alert the Rochester Police as to their ability to park in these specific locations.

Traffic could be a little more stressful during this time so please be patient and drive defensively so safety of everyone is not compromised. If you are going to have friends or relatives who may occasionally be picking up your children after school then we ask that you share this information with them. We continue to ask that nobody parks or attempts to drive on the northbound lane of 6th St. while other vehicles are attempting to leave, as well as, pull up to the curb to pick up children.

Once you see the lights of the bus flashing then please allow it to enter the flow of traffic so students can be dropped off at their locations at the already determined drop times.
SACC students and parents will also need to access the building each morning and afternoon through door 1 by the office. Look for an email from Mark Ponto with more specific information regarding SACC.

Any questions or concerns in the near future can be sent to Todd Kieffer, Folwell Principal, via email at

Thank you everyone and have a great weekend.
