Folwell Food Drive!!

http://www.channel-one.org/COLORLOGO.jpg Got Food?

Folwell Elementary will once again be sponsoring a food drive to benefit the Channel One Food Shelf and Food Bank.  Folwell students and their families have been able to raise in excess of 9,000 pounds of food in recent years, so we are definitely looking to add to our impressive yearly totals with this year’s food drive!

Food drives are an excellent way to educate others about hunger in our community.  Almost half of the people who benefit from the food supplied by the food shelf are children and usage of the food shelf in Olmsted County has grown 100% in the last 10 years alone!

Folwell’s food drive will be the week of March 24-30, 2017.

Donations are especially needed in the following categories:

Rice and pasta
Baking needs
(oil, sugar, flour)
Canned or boxed
main dishes
Peanut butter
Canned soup
Canned fruit
Canned meat
Breakfast items

Each classroom has a goal of 20 items per day to reach our school goal of

1,600 total items!

Students are asked to bring donations to their classroom each morning where they will be collected and counted by Student Council members.

If you have any questions about this year’s food drive, please contact

Sarah Nelson, Student Council advisor, at sanelson@rochester.k12.mn.us.

Please give what you are able during the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign. Your generosity will help end hunger in our community!

Original Works

Look at what’s coming home!

The Original Works program provides each student the opportunity to have the artwork they have created in class, reproduced onto products such as magnets, tiles, note cards, mugs, mouse pads and many other items.  This is a great way for to share their artwork with family and friends and make wonderful Mother’s day, Father’s day, and graduation gifts.

Original Works packets have been place in teacher’s mailboxes and should be arriving home shortly. These packets contain the student’s original artwork, catalog, order sheet and an adorable magnet with their artwork on it. The cost of the magnet is $6.00. Families have the choice to order something for purchase from the catalog in addition to or instead of the magnet. Of course, they can also just keep the artwork and return the rest of the packet, including the magnet, at no cost.

Many students did not have artwork prepared in time for the first submission. That’s ok!

They can simply draw a picture on 8 1/2 x 11 paper, put their name and teacher’s name on the back with a “T” on the back, to indicate the top of the page for printing. (Additional order packets, including price lists are available in the main office.)

PTSA Gift Card Fundraiser

The Folwell Gift Card Fundraiser is a great way to help the Folwell PTSA raise money to support the 5th grade overnight field trip to Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center. You don't have to spend any more money than you normally would with your everyday shopping!

This kind of program is sometimes known as "scrip". We purchase the gift cards for all of our Folwell families in a large bulk order, and the participating retailers give us a percentage of the face value to keep for our PTSA, up to 15% or more!

For example, a Chipotle gift card purchased for $10 is worth the full value of $10 when spent at Chipotle, but the Folwell PTSA will get 10% of the total, or $1. The money adds up quickly! You earn money for our school without spending a single additional penny!

To be a part of our next order, please turn in your form by next Friday, March 17th.

If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact Joanna Hadad at 202-9760 joannahadad@hotmail.com or Elizabeth Kraichely elizabkraich@yahoo.com
