WE NEED YOU! - 5th grade versus Staff Basketball Game

Hello Folwell Families!

Mark your calendars! Our 5th graders will be taking on the Staff in our annual 5th grade vs Staff Basketball game, on April 10, 2018!  We need lots of volunteer help for this fun event!

We are looking for families to help with ticket sales, Raffle table and concessions.

This is a fabulous volunteer opportunity for parents, older siblings/ Folwell alums, grandparents and friends who might want to help out! Please spread the word!

** For those of you who might want to escape the noise of the game, but still be part of all the fun, our 5th grade team is specifically looking for volunteers who might be willing to cover the Raffle table and concessions for the full game.  This minimizes the number of shift changes and volunteers who need orientation for the concession stand.  If you are interested in manning either of these stations for the full event, just sign up for each slot, or contact me to let me know., and I can sign you up from my end.

As a reminder, all volunteers need to have district approval.  This is an easy online process.  The Volunteers in Education link is:

To sign up, please visit the Folwell Blog site at www.folwell.info and "Click to Volunteer."

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or help getting signed up.

Thanks for your support.  Let's go, Falcons!!

Folwell Spring Running Club

Folwell Running Club, a spring favorite, is coming soon!
Spring Running Club will be held Monday-Friday April 16 - May 25th, 8:40-9:00 am. We’ll help kids track miles, award prizes, and get some exercise outside before school! To sign your child up, look for the permission slip after spring break.

Volunteers are needed to help with running club! To volunteer, please visit www.folwell.info and “click to volunteer.”  Running Club is a great way to start the day outside and get some exercise.  Kids love it, and teachers report better concentration and fewer behavior issues when kids exercise before school.

See you out there!

Jump Rope for Heart - a note from Mr. Smiley

Greetings Folwell Elementary Families!

There’s still time to join the team!!!  Folwell Elementary began their annual service learning project and officially kicked-off Jump Rope for Heart with the American Heart Association this year!!  We have been having so much fun!  Our envelopes are due soon, so now is the time to jump on board.

The heart health of our students at Folwell Elementary is very important to us.  Jump Rope for Heart is a program specifically designed to promote heart health in our students while also providing them an important opportunity to help other people.  Our goal this year is to have 100% of our students join our team page and commit to a health challenge:  be physically active 60 minutes a day, choose water over sugar sweetened beverages, or eat more fruits and veggies.  So far, we have 44 students registered – WOW!!!  If you haven’t registered, don’t worry, we’ve still got room on the team!

Please take a moment and help your student join our team by clicking on this link: Folwell Elementary

When students join, they will receive a glow in the dark wristband to thank them for taking the pledge to be healthy.  Should your family choose to support this cause with donations, you may make a donation on this page and you can share the opportunity with family and friends via email, ecards, social media or event text message.  This really helps drive the mission of the AHA and lets others know all the good that is happening in our school.

Our goal is to have every student join our team and take a health pledge - Be more physically active, choose water over sugar sweetened beverage, or eat more fruits and veggies.  We can do this!!
Thank you so much for supporting our school and the American Heart Association!

Thank you,
Mr. Smiley

Step Into Learning

Dear Families,

Earlier this year, you may have taken a survey while attending conferences regarding Step Into Learning

The Step Into Learning concept alters the first two days of the school year (student would not report on the first two days) to allow time for conferencing, nurse visits, assessments and more.

There was a large amount of support for this concept from the parents/guardians that completed the survey. However, participation in the survey was lower than anticipated. The district does not feel comfortable making a change to the start of your school year based on this fact. Therefore, we will not implement Step into Learning for the 2018-2019 school year.

Instead, we will approach this topic in the fall of 2018 to allow for additional communication with our families and additional opportunities to provide feedback. If we receive a great response rate, and a high level of support for this concept, we will work to implement for the 2019-2020 school year.

For those of you that participated in the survey, I appreciate your feedback. For those of you that we did not connect with, we look forward to having more conversations next fall.

Next school year’s first day for our students in grades 1-5 will be on August 27. Kindergartners will begin on August 29.
