Dear Families,
Earlier this year, you may have taken a survey while attending conferences regarding Step Into
Learning.
The Step Into Learning concept alters the first two days
of the school year (student would not report on the first two days) to allow
time for conferencing, nurse visits, assessments and more.
There was a large
amount of support for this concept from the parents/guardians that completed
the survey. However, participation in the survey was lower than anticipated.
The district does not feel comfortable making a change to the start of your
school year based on this fact. Therefore, we will not implement Step into
Learning for the 2018-2019 school year.
Instead, we will approach this topic in
the fall of 2018 to allow for additional communication with our families and
additional opportunities to provide feedback. If we receive a great response
rate, and a high level of support for this concept, we will work to implement
for the 2019-2020 school year.
For those of you that
participated in the survey, I appreciate your feedback. For those of you that
we did not connect with, we look forward to having more conversations next
fall.
Next school year’s first day for our students in grades 1-5 will be on
August 27. Kindergartners will begin on August 29.
On Behalf of Rochester Public Schools,
Wendy J. Moritz
Principal
Folwell Elementary
