Thursday November 15th is GIVE TO THE MAX Day! Thank you so much to the families who have already donated towards our Fall fundraiser this year! These financial contributions go a long way in helping enhance and enrich our students classroom education as well as provide opportunities for students and their families to be involved in their school. Instead of spending your time knocking on doors or calling relatives to purchase a coupon book or wrapping paper, you can make a donation online to help support your school! Please consider donating, and sharing this fundraiser via email or on social media with any friends or family members that may want to contribute. In addition to supporting the Folwell PTSA, GiveMN.org gives back by offering several different prizes that can be won throughout the campaign. School has embarked on an inquiry project called “Identity Day” to discover
what each of us is passionate about. This project culminates innovation
and imagination through art, design, science, technology, engineering and
mathematics while enhancing school culture, community and student engagement. The philosophy behind Identity Day is to share what
students are passionate about and create some type of display or presentation
to show this interest. Through this learning journey we will
discover more about ourselves and about each other, building our relationships
and strengthening our community.As
staff members, we can use our knowledge of students’ passions to connect to
curriculum and learning objectives, too!
Students explore the
question, “What is one thing about you that you would really love to
share about yourself?” Thank you for supporting your child in discovering
his/her passion and creating a display! Displays can include technology,
artifacts, images, and written contributions. Your child’s has communicated
more with you about the specifics of each class, as well.
This project will
culminate in an Identity Day celebration on Thursday afternoon, after student
dismissal, on November 15, with students displaying their passion projects.
During the day on Thursday, November 15, students will share their projects
with one another.They’ll learn about
one another as they discuss things like What are
your current likes? What do you like to spend time on when you are not at
school? What do you wonder about? What is something you’d like to learn
more about?What is one thing
about you that you really would love to share about yourself?
Families are invited to attend this special day, from 4:00-6:00,
on November 15. Please join
us!We look forward to a wonderful
learning experience together!
In collaboration with Rochester Public Schools Transportation Department, Folwell students and families who walk to school are to use 7th Street Southwest, instead of 6th Street Southwest, when walking to school during this gas main maintenance work. There is a crossing guard at the four-way stop on the corner of 14th Avenue SW and 7th St SW, and there are patrols to assist with crossing on 15th Ave SW and 7th St SW.
Please see the Public Service Announcement below, from the City of Rochester Public Works Department for more information.
There are maps available in the Folwell Office, for your reference, as well.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. Feel free to call, email or come in to meet with me.

Last Tuesday, the
school board heard from the District’s consultants and Facilities Task Force
Co-chairs. The presentation provided information on referendum goals, the
housing study, and current draft options. The consultants and co-chairs were
seeking feedback from the school board on the current options. The longer term
objective of the Facilities Task Force is to define elements/scope for the
survey by the end of November. You may view the
facilities task force information from the October 16 school board meeting on
YouTube by clicking the following link, or copying and pasting it into
your web browser: https://youtu.be/De__Qu2x67E
Your feedback is also
important as we continue through the facilities process. To provide feedback,
please join the consultants and task force at the next
Citizen Voice meeting on Wednesday, November
7 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM in the Edison Board Room (615 7th
Street SW). If you are unable to attend in
person, you may live stream the meeting on the RPS YouTube page (@ISD535) and
you will have an opportunity to provide feedback electronically. For those of you that are on Facebook, here is a link to
