Seeking volunteers for yearbook!

Hello Folwell Families!

We are looking for 1-2 volunteers who could help out with Yearbook this year at Folwell!

We have a group of 5th Grade students that have applied for the committee and will be our student photographers and creative designers! We just need a few volunteers that would be willing to assist us in putting it all together.

If you're interested or would like more information please contact Mei-Ling Huie at

Folwell Traffic

PLEASE review the Folwell Traffic Plan if you plan on dropping off students during arrival, or picking them up for dismissal.  Recently there have been several vehicles not following the Folwell Traffic Plan causing concerns for safety.
A FO Traffic Plan was distributed to each student in the Family Folders on Thursday, during Meet the Teacher Open House.

Here is a link to the FO Traffic Plan video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMLmmzAfftM&t=20s

A reminder that for safety, we ask that you do NOT drop students off on the corner of 15th Avenue and 6th Street and we request that you do not pick them up there, either.

A reminder that for safety, we ask that you do not park headed the opposite direction of traffic.  If you feel the need to park and walk to school, consider the legal parking areas north of the intersection at 14th Ave and 7th Street.  There is parking available and you can walk one block west to meet students at school.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

We appreciate your patience as we all work together to keep our students and families safe!  It takes all of us working together!

As we celebrated our students with Identity Day and enjoyed a Thanksgiving vacation, I reflected on what a wonderful community we are a part of!

I am so thankful for our students!  Each student created something using a little part of their heart and soul!  They did amazing work!  Our students are creative, joyful and their possibilities are endless!  They work so hard to show kindness and grit!  Their talents and their passions are a beautiful part of our school every day and their efforts on their Identity Day showcase items were phenomenal!

I am so thankful for our families!  At home they are supporting their children!  They talk about S.O.A.R., they read books together, they bring them places and add experiences to their lives.  They volunteer at our school and attend our events.  Our families provide support for our activities through volunteering and donating.  The recent “Give to the Max” fundraiser is a huge celebration and we are so appreciative!  THANK YOU! The partnership and cooperation we feel with our families is very special!

I am so thankful for our staff!  Staff work together to share ideas, encourage one another and lift each other up when there are challenges. There are so many things that happen every day as we build connections with students and ask questions to take their learning deeper than simply rote memorization. This takes talent, effort, commitment and empathy on the part of each and every staff member.  The risks they take in providing engaging instructions for our students are admirable!

Thank you to each and every one of you for the positive energy and commitment that you bring to our wonderful Folwell Elementary Community!

Together We Will!

THANK YOU - Give To the Max Fall Fundraiser totals are in!!

Hello Folwell Families!

THANK YOU for your overwhelming support during our Give To the Max Fall Fundraiser.  With your generosity, our school raised $9,485!  We are beyond grateful.

With this money, in addition to replacing lost and missing books for the library and funding cultural arts field trips, we can now ALSO offer to increase the amount we are able to give teachers for their classroom funds, and more easily support classroom needs, as they arise!

Our next PTSA meeting is 11/20, as a drop-in event during Identity Day.   Please stop by for some refreshments!

Your passion and dedication to Folwell made this fundraiser a smash success.  THANK YOU!

GIVE TO THE MAX DAY TODAY, THURSDAY, 11/16

Hello Folwell Families!

Our PTSA Fall Fundraiser ends TODAY, with Give To The Max Day, November 16.

We are at $4840 of our $6000 goal!  We are humbled at your overwhelming generosity.  THANK YOU to all the families who have donated hard-earned money to make this fundraiser a success.

Your donation to Folwell PTSA allows us to support numerous student and teacher-led initiatives at school-- not only planned events, but also opportunities that come up during the year.  PTSA funds have already helped purchase equipment for Morning Movers, iPads for 5th graders, owl pellets for 3rd graders, Kindergarten Memory Books, and field trips and plays for all grades K- 5.

This year, we have additional special requests from our library to fund $1000 to replace books that have been lost or damaged.  We also hope to fund classroom field trips for teachers who have requested a cultural arts trip in Spring 2018.

For those of you who choose to give on Give To The Max Day, November 16th, not only does your donation benefit the Folwell PTSA but our school is automatically entered into a contest to receive prize incentives.

PTSA Fundraiser: Give to the Max

Hello Folwell Families!

Thanks to all of you who have contributed to our PTSA Fall Fundraiser! We are at $625 of our $6000 goal.  Our fundraiser is 1 week away from being done, and we need your help!

PTSA funds are incredibly important for classroom support.  Please see below for notes from our teachers on how they use PTSA money for their classroom activities:
We used PTSA funds to purchase additional equipment for our Morning Movers program.   Around 100 kids participate in a daily exercise program, before school, during second and third quarter. (WJM)

PTSA funds allowed our fifth graders to experience 1-1 learning with the iPads that the PTSA helped purchase.  Our fifth graders have used these tools to research, create, and collaborate in ways that we never could before.

PTSA funds have helped fund owl pellets in 3rd grade in order for students to dissect with a partner, rather than a group of 6.  This science experiment helps bring our CIA novel, Poppy, to life and science habitats lessons too!!!!

PTSA funds has helped fund field trips and Children’s Theatre plays in the past.  The PTSA funds our 3rd grade downtown field trip to the Government Center to meet the mayor, eat at Victoria’s and check out a book at the public library.  This experience correlates with our social studies curriculum in order to help students understand government, our community, and Rochester history.

PTSA has provided funds for numerous classroom materials and activities, including all the materials (binder, sheet protectors, pictures) for a personalized Memory Book that each Kindergarten student can take home at the end of the year! It’s such a wonderful keepsake!

As a reminder, donations are tax-deductible, and donations may be given at any time, so please don't forget!

To donate, please visit the Folwell Blog Site at www.folwell.info, and click the "Donate Now" icon
at the upper right corner of the blog homepage.
